The year may be coming to an end, but there are still some debuts that happened in the later months which deserve a closer look. One of those is the new girl group ARTBEAT, who made their official step into the K-Pop scene in November 2022. Let’s get to know them a little better and check out their music!
ARTBEAT is a seven-member girl group consisting of Yubin, Seyoung, Yoojin, Damhee, Gaeun, Sieun, and Haeun. All of the girls started off as part of the dance group AB Project, or simply AB, which is part of their label, AB Creative. The company focuses on recruiting dancers and posts a variety of dance-focused videos; they have a wide selection of dance videos, from group to individual ones, all of which show the talented people part of the AB Project.
Joining at different times and having their first appearances in a variety of dance covers of famous songs, the seven girls eventually became part of the newly debuted group, ARTBEAT. Only a select number of dancers from AB were given the opportunity to make that step into becoming idols, and these were the lucky chosen ones.
One fun fact, six of the members, aside from Damhee, released a digital single back in 2021 called 'Lovefool.' It was their way of thanking viewers for the support they’d shown until that point. The music video and the song focused more on their voices rather than their dancing, perhaps an early sign of their coming debut a year later.
On November 16, 2022, the group made their debut with the 5-track mini-album 'MAGIC,' and its title number of the same name. The song gives off a mystical feeling, presenting the bright charms of the members, and that combined with the sparkling effects and beautiful shots created for the music video, make this a truly magical song.
The pop dance number feels like a dream due to its sound and accompanying music video; it reminds the viewer of a fairy tale becoming reality, and in this case, that being the dream of the members to further show their unique world view, and what they're capable of beyond their dancing covers. They succeed from the start, carrying fantasy-like tunes with their remarkable vocal and rap skills.
With the group having their roots as dancers, it’s a given we need to touch on the choreography of 'Magic.' The group manage to captivate with their well-polished moves, and flawlessly execute precise and elegant gestures, even going as far as adding a couple of slightly more powerful movements, all the while being in sync with each other. Overall, it's a beautiful dance that makes it hard to look away.
All the songs on the album are upbeat dance tracks that seem fitting to the new idols' background. Filled with a lot of energy and determination, 'MAGIC' opens a new perspective for the talented septet.
What do you think of ARTBEAT and their music so far? Do they feel like rookies to you, or do you think their previous covers helped them give off a more experienced image? Come and leave a comment on the KOOKY app with your thoughts!
